Organisations of all sizes can now benefit from the emerging trend of cloud computing. Through the use of the OpenVPN system and Veritech’s innovative Veritoken businesses can create their own low risk, high speed and affordable private 'cloud' that will allow them to share data between offices and ensure access for travelling executives and staff.

Whilst cloud computing in its traditional form provides benefits for many organisations, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are being left behind.  They still require the power of distributed computing, data sharing between offices, and more commonly, scope for telecommuting staff. However, with their existing systems already working fine, there is no cost-reduction incentive to move to a cloud-based solution in the short term.

OpenVPN provides a migratory step where businesses can start to experience the benefits of the cloud computing concept. They can continue to use their existing systems for as long as required and keep costs low, yet reap the same versatility and availability benefits as traditional cloud computing.

OpenVPN is a well established SSL-based VPN tunnelling technology. Its architecture lends itself exceptionally well to the cloud model and SMEs have the option to deploy their own OpenVPN server, or they could utilise the OpenVPN 'Hosted Cloud' offered by OpenVPN Inc.

Take for example a small business with multiple offices, using various applications. These could be, for example Billing, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Knowledgebase WIKI, all located at different offices. Staff from each location, as well as any mobile staff, need access to all applications.  For this business to change to a cloud infrastructure, they would likely need to change the applications and CRM to Cloud-enabled applications.  Staff training and process change would be overwhelming.

Alternatively, the business could ‘rent’ their own cloud infrastructure, migrate servers to the virtual world of the cloud, and continue to use the same applications - on a pay-per-use basis.  However, with existing systems established and running at low cost, the subscription to cloud services could increase operational costs.

The ideal solution is to purchase a subscription to the OpenVPN Cloud, provided by OpenVPN Inc.

As the Australian and Asia Pacific distributor of OpenVPN, Veritech Corporation CEO Livio Mazzon believes that OpenVPN is the solution for SMEs who are struggling with the Cloud Computing concept.

“The OpenVPN cloud path is a nice and easy stepping stone to full cloud computing, a great way for SMEs to dip their toes into the 'cloud'. Using OpenVPN, a private cloud is established which provides the interconnectivity, mobility and security expected from a cloud solution, but it also allows SMEs to properly use their investment in existing systems. A private cloud built with OpenVPN is extremely affordable, and because its fully under your control, you can be sure of its integrity” commented Mr Mazzon.

For telecommuting staff that need their ‘cloud’ to be portable from one computer to another, the ideal solution is the VeritokenTM. VeritokenTM is Veritech's solution for a simple, portable and secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) client device. Designed to complement any OpenVPN-based Server, the Veritoken is a USB Token device which provides an all-in-one VPN Client Solution.

Adding to the client options which already come with the OpenVPN-Access Server, the Veritoken is an ideal solution for enterprises who prefer to issue their roaming users with a dual-factor authentication token.

OpenVPN Cloud is supported by Veritech across Australia and Asia Pacific.
