Highview Christian Community College required a security system that provided web content filtering, anti spam and wireless hotspot and is happy with the results of their new Endian Unified Threat Management (UTM) System, which offers much more than projected.

Highview College is an independent, low fee, secondary school in central Victoria with an enrolment of close to 500 students and 55 staff. Due to public expectations and recommendations from the school board they required a web content filter that gave them greater control over student internet use and the content available to them. Furthermore, students increasingly wanted to bring their own notebooks to school for use in the classroom and online and finally there was the spam issue with over 90% of all email being received by staff and students was unsolicited.

Veritech Corporation, in collaboration with European developer Endian, was able to offer Highview
College an innovative and robust UTM system which allowed them to balance internet security with access at an affordable price. The Endian Firewall macro is a progressive device with forward-looking security features; It is an all-in-one appliance that provides security and Internet access combined with a stateful firewall, email security, web security, gateway antivirus and anti-spam, intrusion detection, virtual private network (VPN) and hotspot (wireless security).

Highview College implemented the Endian Firewall Macro in 2008 allowing them to not only filter and control student internet access in the classroom but the wireless hotspot allows control over student notebook use. The anti-spam in the first 10 months rejected over 1,000,000 spam emails and completely stopped spam altogether.

Furthermore, via having greater control over what the internet gets used for Highview has cut the amount of data being downloaded by almost 40% while giving staff and students faster and secure access to the internet. They are even using the Endian Macro for secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) access for staff who wishes to work from home after hours. In the office the Endian Macro has replaced three physical servers with 1RU (one rack unit) appliance that fits in a communications rack.

Highview College Network Manger Shane M Fowler is impressed with the abilities of the Endian Macro. “Our Endian Macro solved so many of our issues within a few hours of fitting the unit to our rack. Fast, reliable, monitored and secure internet access at the push of a button. Simply brilliant!” commented Mr Fowler.

Businesses interested in reaping the same results as Highview College are encouraged to sample the Endian UTM system by using the online demonstration at www.veritechcorp.com.au and can purchase the product today through their preferred IT consultant or reseller.
